Clacton Pier played host to a major fundraiser for Tendring Scouts at the weekend which hopes to bring in around £4,500 for the organisation.

The Scouts staged a sponsored walk from Walton to Clacton with 114 youngsters taking part with all the money going towards finishing off their new centre in Valley Road, Clacton.

Explorers, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers all put their best foot forward for the event held on Saturday and when they reached Clacton they were treated to a free afternoon of fun on the Pier.

The walk was also supported by Tesco which provided £200 worth of refreshments – fruit and drinks – at various staging points along the seafront route.

Pier Director Billy Ball said: “We were delighted to act as the main sponsor for the day and host the Scouts when they completed their fundraising walk.

“They seemed to have a great time on the rides and really enjoy themselves at the end of their toil. We try to support organisations such as the Scouts whenever possible as part of our efforts to put something back into our community.

“If this was to become an annual event we will give it our continued support.”

Kieron Moir, District Commissioner for Tendring Scouts thanked the Pier, Tesco and Tendring District Council, which allowed family vehicles to use its car parks during the event.

“We really appreciate their backing and it helped make it a very special and successful day for us,” he added.
