The biggest and best ever free Guy Fawkes extravaganza to take place on Clacton Pier is being lined-up for next month.

For the first time the attraction will be staging two separate firework displays on November 3 in an effort to accommodate all ages.

The first display will be held at 7pm for the younger children and it will be followed by another at 8pm.

The Pier is doubling its budget for the event which will be its seventh free fireworks extravaganza of 2018.

Nigel Brown, Clacton Pier’s Communications Manager, said that it will be an expensive change to the normal programme.

“It was decided to put on an earlier display for the children who would not be able to stay up later and might have missed out,” he said.

“Instead of splitting the budget in two, the owners agreed the double the amount they would spend and make it something really special.

“It means that parents can choose to take their children to either display – whichever best suits them – or they can enjoy both!

“It has been a special year for the Pier with its new £4 million development being opened and we just want to keep the fun going.”

All the rides will be operating and there will be live musical entertainment from Steve Richie (1pm-4pm) and Stuck in the Middle (6pm-10pm).

The Pier’s new-style Halloween Festival Week runs from this Saturday (October 20) throughout half term to October 28 with a host of entertainment being laid on.

On Saturday (October 20) an Oompah Band will be performing in the Boardwalk Bar from 1pm to 4pm. This is being staged to celebrate the launch of an Oktoberfest next year.

Then at the start of December the Christmas Wonderland will be returning after an absence of at around five years. A programme of activities, including Santa’s Grotto, is currently being drawn up.
