Funds for Tendring District Scouts HQ in Valley Road, Clacton, have been boosted by more than £4,500.

Around 120 Scouts, Cubs and Beavers walked the walk between Walton Pier and Clacton Pier on Sunday.

One of the main sponsors of the fundraiser was Clacton Pier which provided free wristbands for every youngster that raised over £20.

Those who did not make the target were able to buy the wristbands for £2.50 – as well as siblings - to raise even more money for the cause.

Scout District Commissioner Kieron Moir was delighted with the amount raised.

“It is a really fantastic effort and a huge credit to all those who did the walk on Sunday,” he said.

“This was not just about raising cash for our HQ, but also is a good way of us being able to raise our profile within the community. Many thanks to the Pier and all those who supported our efforts.”

Pier Director Elliot Ball said it was the third year that the Pier has been involved with the initiative.

“It was great to see so many youngsters on the walk and raising money for such a worthy cause,” he added. “We were more than happy to back this and be able to provide some free fun on the Pier once they got back.”

Some groups started their walk at Walton Pier, others from Frinton and the younger ones from Holland-on-Sea.
