Clacton Pier’s Easter Eggstravaganza got off to a cracking start.

Families flocked to the attraction over the four day break and made the most of the activities on offer.

Bruff the Easter Bunny proved a massively popular addition with the children, a free fireworks display went off with a bang, annual rides passes were won by youngsters who found the hidden golden egg each day and there was free live music in the Boardwalk Bar and Grill.

All this was on top of the rides, amusement arcades, adventure golf, soft play and Jurassic Pier.

Despite a pretty gloomy pre-weekend forecast the weather stayed dry throughout which helped encourage visitors to the town.

General manager Harry Peek said it was a good boost for the pier, even if it was no record breaker.

“Overall it was a very positive start to the school holiday and our new staff recruits were definitely needed with many families coming to join in the fun,” he said.

“The weather wasn’t great – but much better than it might have been taking into account the forecasters predictions.

“Hopefully the town and wider district did good business as we now look forward to the May bank holidays and main season.”

The Easter fun continues right through until April 14 with Bruff making daily appearances in Discovery Bay at 11am and 3pm. The egg trail runs throughout the period.

The giant rabbit was named after a competition and honours Peter Bruff, the founder of Clacton and the pier.

The next free firework display will be on Sunday May 5 at 9pm.

Hi Jennie, not a competition as such with a prize but we asked for suggestions through social media. So we chose from suggestions that came in. I think someone else also suggested Peter or Bruff. Thanks for your idea.
