A Celebration Bench on Clacton Pier offers a lasting way to mark a meaningful moment. Whether you’re remembering a loved one, celebrating a milestone birthday, honouring a retirement, or recognising a special achievement, a bench by the sea can be a quiet and personal space to reflect.

Many people choose to sponsor a bench in memory of someone dear, while others use it to celebrate life — a marriage, an anniversary, or simply the joy of time spent together at the seaside. Whatever the reason, each bench carries its own story and becomes part of the shared history of the pier.

All benches are placed at the seaward end of Clacton Pier, looking out across the water. This peaceful and open setting offers a moment of calm away from the busier parts of the pier — a place to sit, reflect, and enjoy the view.

What’s Included

Each Celebration Bench sponsorship includes:

A bench installed at the seaward end of the pier
A personalised plaque with your chosen inscription
Maintenance and care for a period of 10 years

We’ll guide you through the process and help finalise the wording on your plaque so that it feels right for the occasion or person you are honouring. At the end of the 10-year period, we’ll contact you to discuss options for renewal or removal.

Cost

The cost for a Celebration Bench sponsorship is a minimum donation of £1,200, which covers the bench, plaque, installation, and ongoing care for 10 years.

Benches are limited in number, and placement depends on availability at the time of enquiry.

To help ensure clarity and consistency, please take a moment to read the terms and conditions below before applying.

Bench Sponsorship

All Celebration Benches are located at the seaward end of Clacton Pier, offering open views out to sea.
The sponsorship term is for a period of 10 years from the date of installation.
At the end of the 10-year period, we will contact the sponsor to offer the option of renewing the agreement, updating the plaque, or arranging for removal.
If we are unable to make contact, the bench and plaque may be respectfully removed or repurposed.

Plaques

Each bench includes one plaque with a personalised inscription, agreed in advance with the sponsor.
Plaques can mark birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, personal achievements, or the memory of a loved one.
Inscriptions are subject to approval by Clacton Pier and must be appropriate for a public, family-friendly environment.
The plaque remains the property of Clacton Pier but may be returned to the sponsor at the end of the sponsorship term if requested.

Bench Maintenance

Clacton Pier will maintain the bench for the full 10-year sponsorship term, including regular cleaning and repairs if needed.
If a bench is damaged beyond repair (e.g. due to weather, age, or vandalism), we will contact the sponsor to discuss replacement options. Additional costs may apply.
In exceptional circumstances (e.g. operational or structural changes), we may need to relocate benches but will always aim to preserve the calm and respectful nature of the setting.

Flowers and Personal Items

To maintain a clean and respectful environment for all visitors, we ask that no flowers, decorations, balloons, photographs, or personal items are placed on or around benches.
Any such items may be removed without notice.

General

Clacton Pier is a public space and working attraction. While Celebration Benches provide a quiet spot for reflection, exclusive use or private reservation of the bench cannot be guaranteed.
Sponsoring a bench does not imply ownership of the bench, plaque, or pier location.
All correspondence will be sent to the sponsor using the contact details provided at the time of application. Please notify us of any changes.
