Clacton Pier is hoping for a significant “staycation boost” to trade this year.

Families are being hit hard in the pocket and with rising costs, as well as problems with foreign travel, they could opt to spend more time in the UK.

Clacton Pier general manager Harry Peek said that it may lead to a return to the immediate post-Covid period when people made a conscious decision to choose Best of British.

“There is a definite drive for value while people make the most of their precious leisure time and breaks available to them,” he added.

“There is a general feeling within the industry, and with others in our sector in Tendring, that it could well provide us with a welcome and much-needed boost.

“We saw it for a couple of years after the pandemic and now we are hoping the staycation feeling is firmly back again.

“We already offer good value for money and give families what they are looking for so they can make the very most of days out.”

Mr Peek said Easter weekend – traditionally our second best Bank Holiday of the year – is almost here and it’s about delivering for families.

“We and our colleagues in this industry are well aware of the importance of that and have put measures in place to attract visitors to their venues.

“With some decent weather we are keeping fingers crossed for a bumper Easter break and hope that it continues into the main season and beyond.”

The pier’s Easter Extravaganza got underway at the weekend and got off to a steady and promising start.

The fun continues through until April 12 with the Giant Easter Bunny in Discovery Bay, a daily golden egg hunt to win an annual rides pass worth £60, and free live music at the weekends.

The highlight will be the first free fireworks display of nine taking place this year with the pyrotechnics going off around 9pm, depending on daylight, on Sunday April 5.

There will be marked out viewing areas at the seaward end of the pier to get the best experience.
