It was a busy Bank Holiday weekend at Clacton Pier despite a very early Easter.

Bosses at the seaside attraction feared that the timing of the break would result in trade being hit by less favourable weather but were pleased to see so many people turning out.

General manager Harry Peek said there was steady footfall across the four days and he could have no complaints.

“It was generally a good weekend all round and a big attendance for the free fireworks display on Sunday,” he added.

“With Easter falling so early in April our expectations were reserved and we were happy in the circumstances.

“Luckily it stayed dry with just a few showers and people braved the wind to get out and have fun with their families. Monday was probably the warmest day with prolonged bright sunshine.

“Hopefully other businesses in Tendring did well as we certainly needed it as we all prepare for the season ahead. A good Easter gets the ball rolling and hopefully things will carry on from there.”

Visitors made the most of the rides and other attractions on offer, along with free live music outside the Boardwalk Bar.

Bruff the Easter Bunny met many young fans in soft play and free annual rides passes were collected by those who found the hidden golden eggs.

The highlight was the first free fireworks display of the season which exploded into life at 9pm on Sunday. There will be another eight displays coming up throughout the year with the next on Sunday May 3.

The pier’s Easter Extravaganza continues throughout the school holiday up to and including Sunday April 12.

Two jobs are currently up for grabs on site. Bosses are looking for a bar team leader and a hygiene team leader.

Over the next couple of weeks posts for team leaders in other departments will be required ready for May.
