Carnival returns to Clacton Pier this weekend with three days of family
fun which will help boost funds for community groups.

Each year the attraction and the town’s carnival organisers join forces to
stage a popular Carnival Pier Night.

It takes place on Friday (August 11) with a heavily discounted £10 unlimited
ride wristband which is now also being made available on Saturday and Sunday
for the first time.

The band will operate from 6pm until close each day to give more
families the chance to benefit from the special offer.

Director Billy Ball said the attraction is proud to support carnival
week which began on the pier more than 100 years ago.

“It is a traditional and well-loved part of the town’s annual programme
and we are delighted to be involved,” he said. “The organisers raise money for
many local charities and causes and we will be boosting the coffers with our
donation as usual.

“This year we have decided to offer our £10 unlimited rides band across
all three evenings in case some families can’t make Friday.”

The Carnival Association team will be on site on Friday and there will
also be free live music with Tailfeathers performing outside the Boardwalk Bar
and Grill.

Paul Townend, Chairman of Clacton Carnival Association, said the event is
a valuable addition to the week long activities.

“This is a collaboration which works for both parties and it is great to
be back where it  started all those years
ago in 1922,” he said. “The pier is very much part of carnival history and it
was the brainchild of then owner Ernest Kingsman.”

Stilt walkers will be adding to the entertainment on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday night the pier stages the next of its free fireworks
displays to help light up the school summer holidays. Depending on darkness,
this will begin at 9.30pm.

Earlier in the day there will be free live music from Rankin 2 Tone from
1-4pm and then K.Marie from 6pm to 9pm. James Magic will be performing his
tricks for children from 12.30pm.

On Sunday SMC will be on stage from 1pm to 4pm.
