Work is underway to prepare Clacton Pier for its first new-style
Halloween Festival over the October half term.
Bosses have decided to scrap the long-running Scarefest in favour of a
more family orientated event lasting nine days.
New flooring is being put down in Pier Parade, the central concourse of
the landmark, which is also being closed off from the elements.
It will create the perfect location for the new festival which will be
suitable for all ages to enjoy.
There will be creepy crawlies to meet daily at 2.30pm in the Seaquarium;
spooky magic shows four times a day in the Boardwalk; a monstrous model
display; colouring competition at the Captain’s Table; free themed face
painting as well as a Shaky Jakey ghost hunt.
Halloween Festival Week runs from October 20 to 28 and the parade will
be specially decorated for the event.
Ewelina Majewska, the Pier’s Operations Manager, said that she hopes the
new format will prove popular.
“With our new indoor facilities such as Discovery Bay and Skull Point we
have so much more to offer in the winter,” she said.
“This new festival will be different from the those staged in the past
with the emphasis on colourful rather than scary – more family based.
“There will be prizes to be won such as a pass for four to Discovery Bay
each day and there will be some special guests in the Seaquarium.”
The free magic shows will take place at 12.30pm, 1.45pm, 3pm and 4.15pm.
Tiny tots wristbands will be available at £7.50 to use the tiny tots
rides and will include a free ghost hunt pack which will involve collecting
coins to exchange for redemption tickets.
