Fans flocked to Clacton Pier for the opening weekend of the attraction’s new free live music festival.

It was reggae all the way as bands and soloists entertained the crowds on stage outside the Boardwalk Bar and Grill for part one of Clacton Live.

This weekend (June 20 and 21) it is the turn of Country Music and then the final two days will be Best of British (June 27 and 28).

The pier can reveal that among those booked to appear at Best of British are The Vox Beatles, Ronan Williams, Dua Beyond, a tribute to Dua Lipa, Andy Martin Best of Britpop and Scott Borley, one of the world’s top Robbie Williams tributes.

General Manager Harry Peek said it had been a weekend to remember for all the right reasons.

“The sun shone, the people came and the artists provided first class entertainment which was enjoyed by everyone,” he said.

“Whenever you launch a new event it is difficult to predict how it will go but this was definitely a hit.

“We have another strong line-up this weekend for the Country themed weekender and then Best of British will be the perfect was to round things off.”

An extra outside bar was open and there were specialist food vendors selling themed meals throughout the day.

Those appearing included solo artist Mitchell Joseph, as well as bands Natural Right and five-piece Blue Mountain fronted by Christina Akasha. On Sunday it was the turn of four-piece band Runaway Bay followed by FYA and then Reggae Falls.

There is no booking or tickets and the music is free.

This Saturday will feature Lauren Jennifer AKA The Goth Cowgirl, John Batteny, Country Mix by Cherie Pearce with Here Comes Dolly rounding off the day. On Sunday it will be Bubba Bill, Line Dancing, and Lauren Jennifer AKA The Goth Cowgirl.
