Safety is top of the agenda at Clacton Pier.

Nine staff from various departments have undertaken an intensive accredited three-day course designed to enhance their skills and knowledge on the issue.

A director, senior management, office and technical employees attended the sessions which will help maintain the highest possible standards in health and safety across the seaside attraction.

The course was developed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, a globally chartered body which provides recognised qualifications.

It was delivered on site by ADIPS (Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme) who are the inspection body for the pier’s rides.

The sessions have allowed those in positions of responsibility to identify, evaluate and control workplace risks.

Pier director, Billy Ball, who was on the course said that safety is the number one priority at the attraction.

“This initiative has allowed us to enhance the team’s capabilities so that we can continue to maintain the highest standards for our visitors and staff alike,” he added.

“Partnering with ADIPS has allowed us to benefit from their extensive knowledge and experience in amusement device safety and will enable us to implement best practices in safety management – both proactively and effectively.

“We will also be able to assess the performance levels of the systems we already have in place, and continue the professional development of those working for us.”

This weekend (June 15 & 16) the pier welcomes the Emergency Services – frontline Police, Fire, Ambulance, RNLI and Coastguard – for a free fun family weekend.

There will be four free rides wristbands for each family on presentation of a staff ID card at the ticket box.

As it is Father’s Day on Sunday, there will also be free rides for dads. This includes grandpas, uncles and guardians over 18 when a Big Day Out Band is bought for a child.

The adult will be offered a free wristband – and this also applies where children have an annual pass.

The pier will remain open to other visitors over the weekend.
