A team of budding young soccer stars from the South Coast are heading to Clacton for some half-time fun.

Southampton Schoolboys Under 10’s will be taking on their counterparts at Ipswich Town and Colchester United Academies next month.

In between the two fixtures the squad will be taking some time out to relax at Clacton Pier and enjoy some time away from the pitch.

The boys are looking forward to their Essex and Suffolk Tour over June 14 and 15 and hope to maintain their unbeaten season.

The regional side is made up of youngsters from the Southampton, Bournemouth and Portsmouth Academies and are coached by Mitch Le Tissier.

Looking forward to some beach-side sunshine, Steve Howes, parent of one of the players, said: “Clacton Pier was the perfect option for the boys to enjoy some rides and activities together.

“It will be the ideal opportunity for them to form amazing bonds and friendships, as well as celebrating a so far unbeaten season.”

Nigel Brown, communications manager at the pier, said the staff look forward to welcoming the Southampton Schoolboys side to the attraction on June 14.

“We are absolutely delighted they have decided to come to us to chill out between their matches and we hope they have a great time with us,” he added.

“We’ll have to keep a note of their names – they may well go on to be top players in the Premier League in the future!”

Mr Brown said that the pier had been chosen as a venue as one of the parents of the team was born and brought up in Clacton and her parents still live there.
