Clacton Pier’s popular free Oktoberfest event returns this weekend with plenty of family fun, free live entertainment, games and authentic German food and beer.
The team will be creating a true Hofbrauhaus atmosphere in a massive marquee in front of the Boardwalk Bar and Grill with long tables and benches.
Live music acts and an oompah band will be performing throughout the day to get everyone up and dancing while savoury bratwurst, warm pretzels and other delicious German delights will satisfy the stomach.
Along with steins of ice-cold German beers and speciality brews, it all adds up to a lively atmosphere of Bavarian fun.
Harry Peek, the pier’s general manager, said it is the third year the event has been staged and he expects it to be better and bigger than ever.
“Oktoberfest is now a firm favourite on our calendar and it’s time to come along and toast the good times,” he added.
“We are one of the few Oktoberfest’s that offer free entry, you only pay for what you eat and drink.
“No booking, no fuss, just turn up with family and friends – dress up if you want to – and enjoy a festival that dates back more than 200 years.”
Oktoberfest is being staged on September 20/21, 27/28, and October 4/5.
Ein Kleine Oompah Band are returning with a variety of music and new games while the Tailfeathers will perform on each Saturday with new music acts on the three Sundays.
The ever-popular comedy Bavarians Heidi, Hans and Gunter will be returning to help everyone get involved in the fun and games.
There will also be a host of vibrant decorations and towering inflatables with the action getting underway at 12pm on each of the six dates.
Pier mascot Sidney the Seagull will also be out and about in his lederhosen and available for photos.
“Those who have been before know exactly what to expect and I am sure they are looking forward to returning,” said Mr Peek.
“There will be others coming along for the first time and they will not be disappointed with plenty on offer for all.”
