Children spending the Easter period in hospital will be getting an eggstra special gift from Clacton Pier.

The Pier has donated more than 50 chocolate eggs to help boost the spirits of the kids who will be away from home.

Clacton RNLI is heading off on April 6 to make deliveries to various sites including Addenbrookes Hospital, Colchester General, Clacton and Harwich Minor Injury Units and East Anglian Children’s Hospices.

The team will be completing the journey of about 300 miles in a minibus leant to them by Tendring Community Transport and with fuel supplied by Andrew Snell.

It will be the tenth year that the RNLI – with Tim Sutton at the helm – has undertaken the trip to deliver the gifts.

Pier floor manager Pierre Oxley (left) handed over the eggs to Mr Sutton (right) and said that it was a great initiative worthy of support.

“The RNLI does a fantastic job around our coastline and we work closely with them on many occasions,” he said.

“We are more than happy to back their efforts to bring some cheer to youngsters who are in hospital at this time of year.”

Last year the local RNLI delivered around 2,000 Easter eggs and it will be hoping to achieve that figure again this year.

“We are very grateful for all the backing we get from the Clacton community and it all helps to put a smile on the children’s faces which is great to see,” added Mr Sutton.
