The early May Bank Holiday went off with a bang as Clacton Pier staged its second free fireworks extravaganza of the year.
The weather stayed dry throughout most of the three days and even a few sharp showers just before the pyrotechnic display failed to dampen spirits.
Visitors flocked to the berthing arm at the seaward end of the attraction to gain the best vantage point to enjoy the show put on by Dynamic Fireworks of Colchester.
There was also free live music from Words and Music on Saturday followed by Lee Kamara on Sunday. Both performed outside the Boardwalk Bar and Grill.
Pier communications Manager Nigel Brown said the free fireworks were well-received as usual.
“They are very much a traditional part of our programme and always draw big crowds,” he added.
“We have nine displays for 2026, the next being staged on Sunday May 24, and then more throughout the summer before ending in November.
“Overall it was a decent bank holiday weekend with plenty of people about and we hope the town’s businesses enjoyed a much-needed boost.
“While temperatures were not as high as in other areas of the country there were still families taking to the beach and enjoying a dip in the sea.”
Mr Brown said the pier is grateful to Kevin Jay for capturing some atmospheric shots of the fireworks and their amazing reflection on the water.
