An historic vessel is set to return to Clacton this autumn with a range of trips lined-up to and from the town’s pier.
Waverley, the world’s last seagoing passenger carrying paddle steamer, will be docking as part of its 2026 Thames cruising programme.
A number of dates in September and October will be confirmed and announced soon with a few surprises on the schedule.
Waverley, which was built in 1947, has just undergone a £1million winter refit in Scotland for the second successive year.
Tim Wardley, the ship’s pier liaison co-ordinator, said he is delighted to be able to reveal that the Waverley will be back again.
“Although we are a few weeks away from publishing the individual cruise details I can confirm the season will be from Wednesday September 23 to Sunday October 11 and include several cruise options to and from Clacton,” he added.
“All the regular favourites will be included; the cruises to London through Tower Bridge, the River Blackwater, and the 60s Party Specials with live entertainment plus a few surprises!
“We are as always indebted to the owners and staff of Clacton Pier for maintaining the landing stage and continuing to allow Waverley to call, and to our loyal passengers who always support the ship so enthusiastically.
“Full details will be released soon and we look forward to seeing you aboard, as a regular passenger or discovering the Waverley experience for the first time. A warm welcome awaits you all “.
Nigel Brown, the pier’s communications manager, said the attraction was proud to host the Waverley once again.
“This wonderful vessel brings something totally different to the pier and is a magnificent sight as she arrives and departs from our berthing arm,” he added.
“You never know how many years that Waverley will be able to keep coming back so it’s a trip not to miss out on.
“The pier was built in 1871 to receive paddle steamers bringing goods and passengers into the new town of Clacton-on-Sea and they will always be a part of its history.”
February Frenzy continues at the attraction during half term until closing time on Sunday with half price ride offers either through a Big Day Out Band (£15) or on a Funcard.
