A second X Factor celebrity will be appearing at the opening of Clacton
Pier’s new £4 million development to entertain those turning up for the special
event.
A little bit of Chico Time will be added to the ceremony on July 21 to
go with Stevi Ritchie who has already signed up to perform.
Chico appeared on X Factor in 2005 and his incredible showmanship saw
him jump into Sharon Osborne’s pool of talent with his amazing dance routines
and vocal performances.
Following the show it was no surprise when his very first single Chico Time nudged Madonna off top spot
in the charts for his first number one.
Chico has appeared on many top television shows since. In 2012 he joined
ITV’s Dancing on Ice, coming in as a reserve, and was one of the favourites.
He will be helping to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony on July 21
and will also be performing on the stage outside the Boardwalk before mixing
with fans around the Pier site.
Ewelina Majewska, Clacton Pier’s Operations Manager, said it is hoped
that Chico and Stevi will treat those turning up by performing together.
“It should be really fun to have both of them down here with us for this
special day and we are lining up a host of free entertainment, including
fireworks in the evening,” she said.
“The programme is taking shape nicely and we will be keeping our fingers
crossed for a dry, sunny day so our loyal customers can make the most of what’s
on offer.
“Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun – the more the
merrier. Circus Fantasia will have two performances on the day so there will be
lots going on!”
The new development continues on schedule and among the attractions will
be Skull Point American-style adventure golf course; Discovery Bay family
restaurant and children’s play area; Dockside Dodgems and the Captain’s Table
coffee shop.
Work is continuing on time and on budget with the finishing touches
being put to the project right up to the day of opening.
Last week new signage went up on the east side of the Pier which has
totally been transformed as part of the scheme.
