Details of a major new scare event on Clacton Pier have been unveiled with an early bird discount available for the rest of the month.
Clacton FEAR is a terrifying new Halloween event which will run for seven nights during October.
It consists of two live action scare mazes taking place in the Jolly Roger with guests being escorted up onto the upper floor for the first time in about 50 years.
A separate scare zone will be staged outside on the pier.
Clacton Fear will start at 6pm and run until late with rides in the dark, a host of live entertainment as well as food and drink options.
It brings together a team of industry experts including some of those behind award-winning events at Merlin Entertainment’s theme parks.
The cost is £30, but tickets can be snapped up for £25 until August 31. Tickets include all scare attractions and unlimited thrill rides.
Pier general manager Harry Peek said work is well underway in the Jolly Roger, the attractions oldest structure which was put up in 1893.
“This event has been in the planning for three years to ensure we get it right and there has been nothing quite like it on the pier before,” he said.
“We staged Evil on Sea in 2019 but Clacton FEAR will be on a much bigger scale and is one not to be missed. Come along with friends and family and face your FEAR.”
The first scare maze will feature Laughing Gas: Toxic Circus. It is set in 1933 when the Jolly Roger Theatre was preparing to open with Cecil P Cranbourne’s travelling circus. A boiler room explosion releases toxic gas leaving everyone inside missing. Sealed for nearly a century, the theatre is finally reopened and there is the chance to find out what happened that fateful night.
Next comes Mourning Manor Hotel. The hotel fell into decay following the death of Mr Grady but his widow refuses to let it close. She welcomes new guests into the crumbling property where nobody seems to check out. Now it’s your turn to check in!
And finally Mullins and Sons: DEADWOOD scare zone features a lumberjack family who were brought to the pier to complete a timber decking project but they soon found more interesting uses for their chainsaws than cutting wood.
The unfinished worksite has become their territory and the Mullins are rather too keen to get to know their visitors.
FEAR will take place on October 16, 17, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31.
Mr Peek added: “The Jolly Roger was recently investigated for paranormal activity where the team sensed spirits and found cold spots. This confirmed what staff and outside contractors had felt while working in the building.
“This event is one for only the bravest souls and those prepared to uncover the supernatural secrets within. Tickets are on sale and going fast – there is only a limited capacity over the dates.”
