Plans are being put in place to celebrate American Independence Day at
Clacton Pier.

Free live music and children’s entertainment have been lined-up for July
6 – the nearest Saturday to July 4.

The Pier will also be staging its popular and legendary hot dog eating
competition for all those who believe they have the appetite for it!

The music kicks-off with Clacton’s own Tracey Moorehouse who will be
performing on stage in front of the Boardwalk from 12noon to 4pm.

She will then be followed by Steve Ritchie who takes over from 5pm right
through to 9pm.

James Magic Entertainment will have four shows going on in the Boardwalk
Bar for the kiddies with those taking place at 12.30pm; 1.45pm; 3pm and 4.15pm.

Ewelina Majewska, the Pier’s Operations Manager, said it is a long held
tradition to celebrate American Independence Day.

“It has become a regular fixture on our calendar and always goes down
very well – especially the hot dog eating competition,” she added.

“It’s a chance to come along and eat as much as you can and challenge
all others taking part. It always attracts a crowd!”

Last year’s winner was Shane Howard who gobbled down six in five
minutes.

Later in the month the Pier will be celebrating its 148th
birthday with full details to be announced nearer the date.

The event takes place on Saturday July 20 and will include fireworks
around 9.30pm.
