Pier aims high for 2020

December 23, 2019

Clacton Pier is aiming high and looking to attract more than one million
visitors in 2020.

It will be the first time that the figure has been reached for almost 40
years and bosses feel that the target is now achievable.

New attractions and rides are being lined-up for the season and the
landmark will be offering more fun than ever before.

Director Billy Ball said that millions of pounds have been spent on improving
all areas in a bid to attract all ages.

“We are now in our second winter of the new indoor development completed
in July 2017 and it is really pulling in the crowds,” he said.

“We have turned our attention to our outdoor fun fair and it is being
moved around to accommodate rides such a log flume. A great deal of work is
being undertaken and it should look quite different in 2020.

“You cannot stand still in this business as people’s expectations are
very high and we are always trying to meet those expectations.

“There are plans in the pipeline for the Jolly Roger – depending on
funding becoming available – and it is exciting times ahead.”

Between the end of August 2018 and the end of August 2019 more than
930,000 customers poured through the doors.

The Pier is staging its January sale next month for the second year. The
initiative was trialled for the first time in 2019 and proved popular.

Annual passes, which normally cost £49.99 will be £45 during January and
anyone buying a fishing pass during that month will pay £50 instead of £75.

“We appreciate that is a difficult time financially after Christmas and
hope these special offers will help out,” added Mr Ball.

It has also been decided to continue with children eat free with every
paid entry to the Discovery Bay soft play area on Monday to Friday in school
term times. This operates all year round.

The Christmas Village and Cracker deals continue until January 5 and
Santa’s grotto will be converted into a festive cinema from Christmas Eve.
